Carthage College Athletics

2013:  Finished fifth in the 1,650 freestyle (16:33.29), seventh in the 500 freestyle (4:47.26) and 11th in the 200 freestyle (1:45.45) at the CCIW Swimming Championship…part of a CCIW championship relay team in the 800 freestyle and part of a third-place CCIW 200 freestyle relay team…named CCIW “swimmer of the week” on Nov. 13.

2012:  Finished sixth in the 500 freestyle (4:47.16), seventh in the 1,650 freestyle (16:55.32) and eighth in the 200 freestyle (1:46.05) at the CCIW Swimming Championship…ranked 15th all-time in the Carthage 200 freestyle and 16th in the 500 freestyle.

2011:  Finished fourth in the 1650 freestyle (16:38.43), fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:49.96) and 10th in the 200 freestyle (1:45.86) at the CCIW Swimming Championship…named CCIW “swimmer of the week” on Feb. 1.

2010:  Finished fifth in the 1,650 freestyle (16:51.76) and eighth in the 500 freestyle (4:55.09) and 12th in the 200 freestyle (1:48.68) at the CCIW Swimming Championship.

High School:  Did not participate in high school swimming…swam on the Buehler YMCA team in Palatine, Ill., where he was six-time district qualifier, a four-time state qualifier and coached by Darby Brtva…two-year member of the track and field team…National Honor Society member, Mathematics Honor Society member and high honors student.

Personal:  Chemistry major…son of Richard and Laura Mathe…named winter 2013 CCIW/Jack Swartz all-academic…a Carthage mathematics/science scholarship recipient and a member of the 2011 NASA microgravity team…named to the Carthage dean’s list six times and a four-semester member of the Carthage athletic director’s honor roll…born Aug. 17, 1991.
