Brett Witt completed his 12th year as head coach in 2013 (888-669-2, 13 years) after serving as an assistant men's coach for two years from 1999 to 2000. In addition to his cross country duties, Witt begins his eighth year as Carthage’s head men’s track and field coach in 2013.
Since taking 2001, Witt has coached eight All-CCIW performers, including Hamilton Beal in 2002, the Red Men’s first individual conference champion since 1969. Witt has also coached four all-regional runners, including Michael White in 2007, the Red Men’s first-ever qualifier to the NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Championship. The 2007 team finished eighth at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship, Carthage’s best-ever regional finish.
A native of Plover, Wis., Witt attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he was an eight-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-American track and field distance runner and a five-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion, as well as a U.S. Track & Field Coaches Association All-Academic pick.
Witt graduated from Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1998 with a bachelor's in communication. He received his master's in human performance and sport studies from the University of Tennessee in 1999, where he served as a graduate assistant coach in both cross country and track and field. Witt was inducted into the Wisconsin-Stevens Point Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.Â
