Biography
2012: Named CCIW "Men's Swimmer of the Year" for the second-straight year…competed in the NCAA 400 individual medley (finished 16th at 4:01.61), 100 backstroke (did not reach the finals) and the 200 backstroke (finished ninth with a time of 1:47.92)…earned College Swimming Coaches Association of America honorable mention All-America honors with his finish in the 200 backstroke…named the "most valuable swimmer" after winning three events at the CCIW Swimming Championship…won the CCIW 200 individual medley (1:53.68) and set a Carthage record of 1:52.99 in the preliminaries…won the CCIW 400 individual medley with Carthage, CCIW and Koenitzer Aquatic Center-record time of 4:00.66…won the CCIW 200 backstroke (1:48.94)…part of a CCIW-championship 400 medley relay team that equaled a Carthage record…named CCIW “swimmer of the week” after winning four events at the Dec. 2-3 Carthage Classic…set a Carthage record in the 200 freestyle (1:42.15) on Dec. 2 at the Carthage Classic and school record in the 400 individual medley (4:01.42) on Dec. 3 at the same event.
2011: Named the CCIW “Men’s Swimmer of the Year”…finished 14th in the 200 backstroke (1:50.07), 24th in the 100 backstroke (Carthage-record 51.44) and 27th in the 400 individual medley (4:08.77) at the NCAA Division III Swimming Championship …part of a 400 medley relay team that finished 22nd at the NCAA championship…won the 200 backstroke (1:50.35) at the CCIW Swimming Championship, while finishing second in both the 400 individual medley (4:07.86) and the 500 freestyle (4:44.34)…part of a conference-championship team in the 800 freestyle relay.
2010: Finished 11th in the 200 backstroke (1:49.43) at the NCAA Division III Swimming Championship and earned College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-America honors…also competed in the NCAA 400 individual medley but did not reach the finals…won two events at the CCIW Swimming Championship, taking first place in the 200 backstroke (1:50.22) and the 500 freestyle (4:39.60)…also finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (52.32) at the CCIW championship and part of a CCIW-championship relay teams in both the 200 freestyle and the 800 freestyle…won the 400 individual medley (4:17.01) at the Wisconsin Private College Championship…set Carthage records in both the 100 backstroke (52.00) and the 200 backstroke (1:48.88) in the CCIW championship preliminaries.
2009: Did not compete.
2008: Finished 16th in the 200 backstroke (1:52.62), 18th in the 400 individual medley (4:07.05) and 25th in the 100 backstroke (52.88) at the NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming Championship…earned College Swimming Coaches Association of America honorable mention All-America honors for his 16th-place finish in the 200 backstroke…won three events at the CCIW Swimming Championship, taking first place in the 100 backstroke (53.07), the 200 backstroke (1:52.42) and the 400 individual medley (4:08.97) and part of a conference-champion 800 freestyle relay team…won the 200 individual medley at the Wisconsin Private College Championship.
High School: A three-time qualifier for the Illinois High School Association state championship and earned all-state honors his senior year with an 11th-place finish in the 100 backstroke…coached by Chad Ganden…four-year member of the water polo team…coached by Bill Schalz for the Academy Bullets club team.
Personal: Computer science major…son of Kevin and Sandy Drake…his father placed third at the 1976 Olympic trials…his brother, Kenton Drake, is a swimmer at UC-Santa Cruz and the top qualifier in both the 100 and the 200 breastroke at the 2007 NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming Championship…named to the fall 2009 Carthage athletic director’s honor roll…born June 22, 1989.
