KENOSHA, Wis. — Christian Delgado (Bravo), a senior studying psychology from Morris, Ill., is a Carthage League of Legends (LoL) player. He competes in the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC), which challenges him to coordinate effectively in team-based environments.

For those unfamiliar, League of Legends is a popular 5v5 multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game in which two teams draft in-game champions and compete. The main objective is to destroy the enemy's Nexus (base) by earning gold and experience to enhance champions. These champions are equipped with distinct abilities designed to clear out minions, enemy champions, and towers. By controlling these objectives, a team can dominate the map and ultimately claim victory.

Within LoL's gameplay structure, there are five main roles that shape a well-rounded team composition: Top Lane, Mid Lane, ADC/Bot Lane, Jungle, and Support.

Top Lane is responsible for absorbing damage as a frontliner, distracting enemies from key objectives such as Baron and Dragon, focusing on early dragons through solo survival, and managing frozen waves near enemy towers. Mid Lane requires strong creep-scoring skills, or minion slaying, and effective trading with enemy champions. Mid Laners also coordinate with the Jungler to secure Scuttle Crabs and objectives and to dive on opponents. Additionally, Mid Lane helps by quickly roaming to the Top or Bottom Lane or supporting the Jungler's skirmishes. Securing roam tempo during wave management is crucial, as minions progressively increase in speed.

ADC/Bot Lane's primary role is to farm minions in the Bottom Lane to gain gold and purchase strong attack items. Early in the game, players avoid taking unnecessary vision due to their vulnerability, but they become key damage sources during late-game teamfights. Junglers focus on clearing neutral monsters, ganking enemy lanes to secure kills, controlling objectives such as Baron and Dragons, and pressuring the map. The Support's goal is to assist the ADC, manage map vision with wards, generate gold with special items, initiate fights with crowd control, and heal or shield teammates.

Christian Delgado began his esports career in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He competed in numerous online tournaments and joined several teams, improving his skills along the way. After the pandemic had mostly subsided, he began competing in offline tournaments and took his talents to his high school, the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. There, he competed on a team with players from across the country and helped the team earn third place at the Illinois High School Esports Association (IHSEA) State Regionals under the gamertag Skeptical.

Over time, however, Delgado's love for Smash Bros. steadily dwindled. He no longer enjoyed the game's ever-changing strategies, especially after his local offline tournament shut down permanently. During this time, he began developing a new love for a different game entirely: League of Legends. This new interest prompted a brand-new gamertag: Bravo.

Delgado started playing LoL in early 2020 but began focusing on it more seriously after his friends lost interest in the competitive Smash Bros. scene. As a result, Delgado's friends followed suit, developing a new love for LoL. Upon arriving at Carthage College in 2023, Delgado spent his freshman year steadily improving his skills and playing consistently. During his sophomore year, he was invited to meet head coach Robert Xiong. From there, Delgado joined the LoL team as a substitute whenever the team needed a change in play style or to relieve some of the team's fatigue.

In his Carthage Esports career, Delgado is a one-time NECC Conference champion, winning Division VIII Central East on April 8, 2025, and was named the program's Most Improved Player on May 14, 2025. As a rotational Support during the Fall 2025 NECC season, Delgado finished with 21 kills, 22 deaths, and 42 assists for a 2.86 KDA, along with a 14.89% kill participation rate (63/423). In the same role during the Spring 2026 season, Delgado recorded 10 kills, 30 deaths, and 57 assists for a 2.23 KDA, with a 19.09% kill participation rate (67/351).

Delgado's senior year promises to be an exciting one. The Carthage LoL team needs to fill key positions after former players Gavin Johnson (Cahara) and Quentin Zeller (Wolfstrike) graduated in May. As a result, Delgado will be a core roster member this season. Although the uncertain team composition might seem daunting, he approaches the upcoming year with enthusiasm for what lies ahead. The Carthage Esports program is undoubtedly preparing Delgado well for the journey.

Carthage Esports is currently in the offseason and will resume regularly scheduled livestreams in late September and early October to kick off the Fall 2026 season and the 2026-27 competitive year.
