Softball Splits Home Doubleheader With North Central

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage softball team hosted the North Central College Cardinals on Thursday at Wiers Family Stadium. The Firebirds got off to another hot start and claimed the first game over the visiting Cardinals. The Cardinals bounced back in the finale, using a three run inning to build a lead and claim the victory.



GAME ONE

The Firebirds got on the board in the bottom of the first inning as Olivia Hristov hit an RBI single up the middle to score Clare Rettler and Gwen Hendrick to give Carthage a 2-0 lead.

The two teams were held scoreless in the second, third, and fourth innings. The Firebirds then added a run to their lead with an RBI single to right field by Hendricks to score Rettler and boost the lead to 3-0.

The Cardinals found the scoreboard in the sixth inning, as an RBI single for Carley Creeth scored the lone run in the ball game for North Central.

GAME TWO

The Cardinals struck first in the third inning of the second game with a single up the middle for Lauren Bowmar to take a 2-0 lead. An infield single for Emma Herder then scored another run to give North Central an early 3-0 lead.

The Firebirds responded in the bottom of the third inning, as Hendrick hit a single to center field that brought home Rettler and cut the deficit to 3-1.

The two sides battled without allowing another run until the seventh inning, until Kayla Crabtree hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home an insurance run and give the Cardinals a 4-1 victory.

HITTING PITCHING


The Firebirds (17-11, 6-2 CCIW) return to Wiers Family Stadium on Saturday, April 18 against Augustana (Ill.) for a CCIW doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The games will be streamed live on the CCIW Network.
