Softball Splits With No. 15 Wis-Whitewater

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage softball team hosted the nationally ranked Wis-Whitewater Warhawks at Wiers Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Firebirds got out to a strong start by earning a win over one of the top teams in the country in the opening game. The Warhawks bounced back in the finale, shutting out the Firebirds to earn the doubleheader split.



GAME ONE

The Firebirds got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third inning as an RBI single to left field for Rylee Boyd scored Leiah Cardona to give the Firebirds a 1-0 lead. 

The Firebirds then added more runs to their total in the fourth inning. Hana Adler singled up the middle to score Rachael Setterstrom. Clare Rettler later singled to left field to bring home Jessica Craig, before an infield single from Boyd scored Isabelle Stombres and extended the lead to 4-0.

Another pair of runs came home in the sixth inning for the Firebirds as a throwing error allowed Adler to score from third base. Boyd then tripled to left center field to score Rettler and bring the score to 6-0. 

The Warhawks avoided the shutout in top of the seventh inning as an RBI double for Dani Peshia scored Grace Grabowy and Rachel Radish to cut the deficit to 6-2. The Firebirds were able to end the inning without further damage and earned the win over the Warhawks.

GAME TWO

The Warhawks scored the first run of the game in the second inning with an RBI double from Baley Berndt. A two-run home run for Auburn Roberson extended the Warhawks lead to 3-0.

The Warhawks added two more runs to their lead in the top of the fifth inning with a pair of RBI singles for Peshia and Emma Giese. The Warhawks would go on to win 5-0.
