Men’s Wrestling Earns Key Victories in Matchup With Wheaton (Ill.)

WHEATON — The Carthage men's wrestling team acquired a series of decisive individual victories against Wheaton (Ill.), winning the match 36-7 on Saturday afternoon.

Carthage opened the dual with forfeits at 125 and 133, as Chris Kish and Evan Glowinski secured wins to give the Firebirds an early lift. At 141, Edgar Albino controlled the bout from the opening whistle, posting an 11-0 major decision. Elijah Zepeda followed with a narrow 5-4 decision at 149, while Zaren Anderson added a 10-4 decision at 157.

Wheaton (Ill.) secured a major decision at 165 pounds, but Carthage quickly responded at 174 pounds with an impressive performance from CJ Gilbert, who picked up a 20-0 technical fall in just 4:52. London Kiser maintained the momentum for Carthage at 184 pounds, winning by an 11-7 decision. Elvis Muja wrapped up the bouts with a forfeit victory at 197 pounds.

Although the Thunder concluded the dual with a sudden-victory win at heavyweight, Carthage ultimately claimed victory in the match.

The Firebirds will be in action for Senior Day against Wisconsin-Stevens Point, which is scheduled to start Friday, January 16, at 7 p.m.
