SHERMAN - The Carthage College women's water polo team returned to action Saturday and Sunday for the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) East Region Tournament hosted by Austin College in Sherman, Texas. The Firebirds played four games against Macalester, Austin, Penn State Behrend, and Augustana.
Game One

Game One
- The Firebirds were on the board first, scoring back-to-back goals in the first period by Morrigan Bushroe and Grace Steinberg (3-0). To conclude the first period, the Firebirds, Yamila Areizaga and Brenna Carstens, scored two more goals, and Macalester scored two, forcing the score to be 5-2 after the first.
- Macalester and the Firebirds tied in goals 2-2 in the second period. Steinberg and Bushroe had the two goals for the Firebirds in the second (7-4).
- In the third period, Macalester outscored the Firebirds 9-1 and took the lead. Steinberg had the lone Firebird goal (13-8).
- Macalester advanced their lead in the fourth period and took the win from the Firebirds (17-8).
Game Two
- In the first period, Austin outscored the Firebirds 5-2. Kaylin Machuca and Veronica Gut scored the two goals for the Firebirds (5-2).
- The Firebirds scored back-to-back goals to start the second, scored by Carstens and Yamila Areizaga. Austin followed with three goals. The second period ended with Carsten scoring with 3:11 left on the clock and Austin scoring with 2:03 (9-5).
- There were 13 goals scored in the third, forcing Austin to advance their lead to 15-12. For the Firebirds, Steinberg, Areizaga, Carstens, Bushroe, and Trejo all collected goals.
- Areizaga and Faith Harris both had goals in the fourth to dig into Austin's lead. However, Austin outscored the Firebirds in the fourth 8-3 and took the win from the Firebirds 23-15.
Game Three
- The Lions got on the board first in the first period at 6:14. Four goals followed, three by the Firebirds from Bushroe and Carstens. The Firebirds concluded the first period in the lead 3-2.
- In the second, the Lions took the lead and outscored the Firebirds 6-4. Areizaga, Sarah Lowery, and Bushroe scored for the Firebirds in the fourth (8-7).
- Trejo opened the third period, scoring at 7:09. Steinberg and Bushroe also scored for the Firebirds in the third. The Lions advanced their lead to 12-11.
- Trejo led the Firebirds in scoring in the fourth. Bushroe also got a goal, but the Lions outscored the Firebirds and took the win 17-14.
Game Four
- The Firebirds were on the board first over the Vikings. Areizaga scored two back-to-back goals to take the lead. The Vikings answered back with three goals. Trejo scored for the Firebirds with 1:24 left on the clock. Leaving the first period, the Firebirds and Vikings were tied 3-3.
- The Firebirds outscored the Vikings in the second period 4-3. Trejo, Bushroe, and Areizaga all collected goals in the second. After the second, the Firebirds took the lead 7-6.
- The Vikings came back in the third period, outscoring the Firebirds. Bushroe had the lone Firebird goal (10-8).
- Carstens started the Firebirds off in the fourth period with a goal at 7:17. Trejo forced the score to a tie (10-10) at 3:40. The Vikings took the lead from the Firebirds with three goals. Steinberg scored with 37 seconds left, but the Vikings held off the Firebirds to take the win.
- The Firebirds scored 48 goals on the weekend.
- Bushroe led the Firebirds in goals over the four games.
- The Firebirds collected 32 exclusions on the weekend.
