The Firebirds Open Home Play Against the Bearcats

KENOSHA - The Carthage College women's water polo team returned to action Saturday afternoon taking on the McKendree Bearcats at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center. 

The Basics
  • Final score: McKendree 11 - Carthage 3
  • Location: Kenosha, Wis.
  • Records: Carthage (2-12), McKendree (12-3)


How it Happened
  • McKendree opened the contest with a goal within the first two minutes of the first quarter. 
  • Rylee McGee made the five-meter penalty shot save to keep the Bearcats lead at one. 
  • The visitors added two more goals taking a 3-0 margin heading into the second quarter. 
  • Carthage cut into the lead as Kira Jacobsen scored making 3-1 however; McKendree quickly responded with two goals for a 5-1 advantage. 
  • McGee made another save keeping it at four. 
  • The visitors put in another goal for a 6-1 score heading to the intermission break.
  • Grace Steinberg got Carthage's second goal of the game in the third quarter. 
  • Another Firebirds goal this time from Abigail Karpluk shrank the deficit to three but McKendree answered with a goal of their own. 
  • A last second goal saw Carthage head to the final quarter of play trailing 8-3. 
  • Three more goals for the Bearcats sealed the victory 11-3. 


High Flyers
  • The Firebirds took seven shots on the Bearcats.
  • Carthage collected 12 exclusions and three points against the Bearcats.
  • Rylee McGee recorded four saves.
