CHICAGO – The Carthage men's tennis team traveled to the Windy City on Sunday to compete against the highest ranked team in the country, the no. 1 UChicago Maroons. It was a tough day for the Firebirds, as the Maroons swept doubles play before cruising to victory in singles play.

 

In doubles play, Elios Briand and Myles Krzewinski dropped a 6-4 match with Andrei Leonov and Pat Otero. Cooper Ferruzzi and Francisco Silveira fell 6-2 in #2 doubles to Emil Grantcharov and Derek Hsieh. Cyriac Cayuela and Finn Morris lost 6-2 to Jacob Lowen and Jack Wong. The Maroons claimed the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead over the Firebirds.

In singles play, Silveira fell to Hsieh 6-2, 6-1 in #1 singles. Krzewinski dropped a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) battle with Grantcharov. Briand fell to Ajer Sher 4-6, 6-1, (10-3). Ferruzzi was swept in #4 singles with a pair of 6-0 losses to Michael Choi. Morris fell 6-0, 6-1 to Wong. Cayuela lost 6-2, 6-0 to Matthew Liew.


 
The Firebirds (2-3) will return to the Life Sport Athletic Club in Racine, Wis. on Friday, Feb. 21 to host MSOE at 6:45 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
