How it Happened

Another run came home on a dropped third strike in the sixth inning, while an infield single brought the final run home in the seventh.

Maddie Conway suffered the loss as the starter and fell to 2-2 on the season.

The Firebirds were able to load the bases in the inning before Sarah Bennett took one for the team, getting hit by a pitch and bringing Hernandez in to score.

The fourth inning was a big one for Carthage. Abby Wierzbicki got the action started with a base hit to center field, bringing home Kristina Chronos. Peyton Kryza walked with the bases loaded to score Kirby Peters. Hernandez walked in the next at bat to score Rettler. Rylee Johnson singled up the middle and allowed Kryza and Wierzbicki to score to jump the Firebird lead up to 7-0.

Gwen Hendrick kept the offense rolling in the fifth inning with a single through the left side, bringing Peters and Wierzbicki home to score. Johnson singled up the middle to bring home Hernandez and put the Firebirds in position to run-rule the Beavers. Hana Adler came in to pitch and closed out the victory for the Firebirds.
