BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - This was no ordinary conference sweep for the Firebirds - a team that has now swept three of its last four opponents. A great deal of program history was made as Carthage dispatched Illinois Wesleyan 9-0 on the road. With a win at both the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles flight (with doubles partner
Myles Krzewinski), senior student-athlete
Yanozie Amadike reached Carthage's prestigious 100 wins club.
Amadike, from Calgary, Alberta in Canada, was named the team's most valuable player in 2019-2020 and was named first-team all-conference in 2022. Paired with Carthage tennis legend
Daniel Moore at the No. 1 doubles flight in 2021-2022, Amadike and Moore teamed up to take home 27 victories, which is the fourth most in a single season in program history for a doubles tandem. This year, Amadike has taken home ten wins as a singles player, with eight of those coming at the No. 1 flight; in doubles, Amadike has taken home 17 combined wins three different teammates. 13 of those victories have come with junior
Myles Krzewinski, which has allowed the pairing to garner national respect in doubles. Amadike and Krzewinski were ranked as the 10th-best doubles pairing in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) at the end of March.
Amadike's coach,
Brady Lindsley, also hit a historic milestone with today's win. Lindsley, the leader of Carthage's men's and women's tennis programs for 26 seasons (incl. 2023), earned his 800th career dual-match victory between the two programs. After today's victory, Coach Lindsley owns a career record of 441-192 (.696) with the men's program and a 359-182 (.668) career record with the women's program. Throughout his team at Carthage, Lindsley has produced eight Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Americans, nine CCIW "Men's Tennis Player of the Year" awards, 72 All-CCIW selections, and 12 CCIW Men's Tennis Tournament MVPs. As a player for Carthage from 1992 to 1995, Lindsley compiled an 82-24 career mark and won three CCIW titles. Those three championships included a No. 3 singles title in 1993, a No. 4 singles crown in 1995, and a No. 3 doubles championship, also in 1995.
Lindsley's men's team currently sits at third in the conference standings with a 13-5 overall record (4-1 CCIW) and the conference tournament looming. The team has now won four in a row, and Carthage's players have won 35 of their last 36 matches with three sweeps and an 8-1 victory comprising the win streak.
