How it Happened

Game One:
  • Wisconsin Lutheran struck first and with authority, putting up three runs in the first inning to take an early advantage. The Warriors' rally was aided by a walk, a stolen base, and a passed ball.
  • The Warriors tacked on another run in the top of the second inning, doing so with an RBI double.
  • Carthage scored its first run of the afternoon in the bottom half of the inning, as Abby Wierzbicki lofted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring starting pitcher Maddie Conway
  • The wheels fell off for the Firebirds in the top of the third inning, as the Warriors' lead ballooned to 11. Three walks and a number of singles sparked the rally, while back-to-back home runs - including a grand slam - capped the inning. WLC led 12-1 after three innings, putting Carthage in a precarious situation.
  • After WLC added another run in the top of the fifth to go ahead 13-1, Carthage scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth but couldn't continue their rally, leading to a 13-3 defeat in five innings.
Game Two:
  • Wisconsin Lutheran began game two in a similar fashion as game one, taking an early, commanding lead. A home run from the two-hole hitter opened up the scoring and was subsequently followed by six more runs; the rally was aided by an error, a wild pitch, two passed balls, and three walks.
  • The Warriors added a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, going ahead 9-0. Three more runs in the top of the third added further insurance for the visiting team. Carthage's only offense came in the bottom of the fifth inning, as first-year athlete Olivia Hristov doubled in Kelly Gaiser. Kiley Lamb followed Hristov's double with a two-RBI single.
  • The Firebirds failed to carve into the Warriors' lead any further, resulting in a 12-3 defeat and a doubleheader sweep.

High Flyers

  • Kiley Lamb recorded a pair of hits in game one, as did Gwen Hendrick - who also scored a run in the loss. Lamb also added a two-RBI single in game two and has recorded five hits in her last three games.
  • Izzy Hernandez went 1-3 with a run scored in game one, while Maddie Conway also recorded a base hit and a run scored. Hernandez added another hit in game two.
  • Olivia Hristov recorded her second hit of the season - scoring Kelly Gaiser late in game two.
  • Kelly Gaiser drew a pair of walks and scored a run in game two.
