"These guys prepare all summer to be ready once the fall season comes around, and to come out and grab an invitational championship in our first competition of the new year is fantastic," said head men's golf coach
Jay Christiansen. "We graduated six seniors out of our top ten players, so many probably thought we might take a bit to rebuild, but last year our young guys had some fantastic senior role models who showed them exactly what it takes to be top college players."
"
Jared Christensen decided to take advantage of an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was playing the best golf of his college career last spring, and he was looking for one last opportunity to grab a big role on our squad. I think he proved again this weekend that he has the game, and now it mixes with a bit of extra maturity and perspective. Watching him get on a roll yesterday, knowing how much time he has put into his golf game over the years- not only was a proud coach moment- but really was the difference in us winning the invite."
- The Firebirds will host the Carthage Fall Classic at the Randall Oaks Golf Club in Dundee, Illinois on Friday, September 9 and Saturday, September 10, with both days beginning at 12:30 p.m.
