Firebirds Softball Concludes CCIW Tournament in Decatur

DECATUR, ILL. — Playing in their second game of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Softball Tournament, the Carthage College softball team fell just short to Carroll (Wis.) on Saturday morning at Workman Field.

The Firebirds (14-18) started the game with a double down the left field line from Maddie Conway moving Naomi Alonzo into scoring position. Kristina Chronos belted a two-RBI single to right field making the score 2-0 in the first. Carroll (Wis.) (20-14) responded in the bottom half scoring off a throwing error, cutting the margin to 2-1. The score held at one run until the sixth inning when the Pioneers took the lead off a two-run triple. Carroll (Wis.) added another run with an RBI single moving the score to 4-2. Although Katie Trail got on base on an error in the seventh, a line out, flyout, and strikeout won it for Carroll (Wis.).

Quick Facts

  • Bella Spittler and Kristina Chronos both stole a base in the game moving their season totals to 28 and five respectively. 
  • Spittler tied her record for most stolen bases in a single season. 
  • Naomi Alonzo struck out one batter pushing her career total to 210 which is ninth in the record books overall. 
  • Maddie Conway hit her ninth double of the season while Chronos drove in two runs.
