Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Firebirds Conclude Home Stand on Senior Day

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's water polo team fell to Macalester in the morning game 16-4 before concluding with a 19-7 loss to No. 9 Augustana (Ill.) in conference action on Sunday. 

In game one, Kayli Sayatovic got the Firebirds on the board in the second quarter. Gladys Contreras netted another for Carthage in the third, then in the fourth, Taylor Woitesek scored on a five-meter penalty shot. Contreras notched her second goal of the game with 2:02 left in regulation. Playing in the net for the first two quarters, Woitesek recorded nine saves. Contreras led the team in shots with seven followed closely by Kayli Sayatovic who had five. 

Goalscorers in game two came from Sophie Flott, Katlynn LaGrone, and Contreras in the first half. Sydney Logan and Victoria Hodges put in goals in the third quarter while Alyssa Sayatovic and Meghan Fisher scored in the final quarter of play. Fisher led the team in shots with six, followed by Contreras with five. In goal, Gabrielle Pavesich made nine saves for the Firebirds. 

Carthage hits the road for the regular-season finale game against Macalester on Saturday, April 16 at 7 p.m.
