NORMAL, Ill. — Carthage men's golf sits in sixth place out of 25 teams after round one of two at Illinois Welseyan's Spring Invitational which began this Friday afternoon. The Firebirds shot 302 (+14) collectively on the par 72, 6901 yard Ironwood Golf Course, just two strokes behind Wisconsin-Eau Claire in fifth.

Senior Tyler Muschewske set the pace for Carthage this evening, shooting 73 (+1) to tie for ninth among the 131 golfers in attendance. Seniors Zach Shawhan and Kevin Healy both carded 76 (+4) to tie for 30th. Freshmen Alex Lilly and Tanner Angelstad shot 77 (+5) and 83 (+11), respectively, while Senior Alex Green carded 81 (+9) as an individual.

Tournament host Illinois Wesleyan has three teams entered in the field, with one team in first (283 (-5)) and another in third (295 (+7)). Webster University sits in second place (293(+5)).

Round two of the IWU Invitational will have a shotgun start of 9 A.M. tomorrow morning, April 2.
