NORMAL, IL. — The Carthage men's golf finished in third place out of nine CCIW teams after their first day of play in the Men's Golf CCIW Championship. The first day of action featured two rounds from each team, and saw the Firebirds place third with their total score of 608 (+40). Carthage shot 305 in round one, and 303 in round two to combine for their day one score. Illinois Wesleyan came out on top in the first day of action with their total of 585 (+17), while Millikin trailed in second place with their score of 596 (+28).

Zach Shawhan ended in 2nd place among all competitors with his first day score of 145 (+3). Shawhan shot 71 in round one, and 74 in round two. Alex Green landed in 12th place after shooting 78 in the first round and 74 in the second to total 152 (+10) for the day. Tyler Muschewske ended with a 17th-place tie and a total of 155 (+13), while Kevin Healy grabbed a 24th-place tie and a score of 159 (+17). Austin Young rounded out the Firebird's scorecard with his 27th place finish and score of 160 (+18).

The 2021 CCIW Men's Golf Championship concludes on Saturday with the first set of tee times beginning at 8:30 A.M. at D.A. Weibring Golf Club.
