NORMAL, IL. — Men's golf finished in a fourth-place tie this Saturday at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois. The Firebirds shot 310 in round one, and 305 in round two to end with a total of 615 (+39) for the tournament. Webster also scored 615 (+39) and joined Carthage in the fourth-place position. The host of the tournament, Illinois Wesleyan, would grab the first place slot, after shooting 582 (+6). Aurora University took second with 592 (+16), and Wisconsin-Eau Claire landed in third with 614 (+38).

Zach Shawhan led Carthage with a 16th-place tie and a team-best total of 152 (+8) after shooting 78 in round two. Tyler Muschewske followed closely behind with an 18th place tie and a tournament total of 153 (+9). Alex Green shot 155 (+11), while Austin Young and Kevin Healy shot 156 (+12) and 163 (+19) respectively.

Assistant Coach Jay Christiansen:

"Over the course of two days, I think all five guys played some very good stretches of golf. Unfortunately nobody put together all 36 holes, but I was very encouraged by what I saw. For the most part we were very good off the tee, but with the strong wind it was very challenging to hit the greens on many holes. Our biggest struggle was getting up and down when we missed the green, but I still felt pretty good about what I saw. We continue to get better, and I think we are gaining some confidence. Maybe over the next couple weeks we can take that next step."


The Firebirds head back to Normal, Illinois this Wednesday, April 7 for the CCIW Preview at Weibring Golf Club.
