Softball Drops Home Tilt to Millikin

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College softball team continued the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action on Sunday afternoon falling to Millikin in game one 7-2 before dropping game two 7-3. 

Millikin (21-9, 18-6 CCIW) got on the board first in game one with five runs in the second until an RBI single from Naomi Alonzo made it 5-1. After the Big Blue added two in the sixth, an RBI single from Mackenzie Miller shrank the lead to 7-2 however, a groundout gave Millikin the win 7-2. 

In game two, the Big Blue struck first with two runs in the first and three runs in the second. Alonzo was able to score on a wild pitch for Carthage (13-13, 11-11 CCIW) shrinking the deficit to 5-1. After the Big Blue added two, Sarah Bennett singled through the right side which allowed Maddie Conway to score in the seventh. Johnson later singled which allowed Reagan Goluck to score, narrowing the gap to 7-3 however, a final popup sealed the sweep for Millikin. 

Carthage stays at home playing Augustana (Ill.) starting at 1 p.m.

  • Mackenzie Miller led the Firebirds in hits in game one with two while Donna Stevens had a triple. 
  • Bella Spittler swiped her 16th and 17th stolen base in the doubleheader. 
  • Rylee Johnson and Maddie Conway each had a double in game two. 
  • Naomi Alonzo struck out three batters over four innings of work in the circle of game two.
