Men’s Tennis Pulls Through Against UW-La Crosse

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. — Carthage men's tennis picked up a hard-fought 5-4 win against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse this Sunday in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The match was decided on the last court of the day, where Chris Mitev gave the Firebirds the advantage on a 6-3, 6-2 dub. The win today improves Carthage's overall record to 4-5.

Nick Welker and Tripp Schulte started doubles play off with an 8-4 victory on court one. Court two would result in a loss for the Firebirds, but Kevin Dunn and Patrick Anderson finished strong in doubles play as they grabbed an 8-5 win over on court three.

Nick Welker opened up singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court two. After dropping courts four and five, Matt Krzewinski would give Carthage their second singles victory back on court three. As the match was tied 4-4 heading into the last court of the day, Chris Mitev pulled out a commanding 6-3, 6-2 win on court six to close out the match in the Firebird's favor.

"Really happy for our guys," said head coach Brady Lindsley. "We've been on the losing end of a 5-4 match twice this year. We needed to pull out one of these close matches."

Friday, April 9th, Carthage takes on Millikin University on the road in Decatur, Illinois for their third CCIW match of the year. The Firebirds are currently 1-1 in conference play after their win against Carroll this past weekend.
