DECATUR, ILL. — Carthage men's golf finished in third place after their second day of play this Sunday at the Millikin Big Blue Spring Opener. The firebirds shot 310 (+26) on the final day of the tournament to tally a grand total of 614 (+46). They trailed behind Webster with 589 (+21), and Millikin with 602 (+34).

Zachary Shawhan led Carthage in individual play as he finished day two with a score of 78 (+7), making him tied for eighth place with a total score of 150 (+8). Tyler Muschewske shot 77 (+6) to put him in a tie for eleventh place with a total of 151 (+9). Kevin Healy ended with a final score of 156 (+14), while Alex Green and Keegan Oberding both finished with 162 (+20) after two days of play. 

Assistant Coach Jay Christiansen :

"Although we left a lot of strokes out on the course, finishing third in our first tournament feels good. I think every one of the guys feel that once they can get a couple weeks of practicing outside on the golf course, their short games will come around and their scores will reflect it."


Next Saturday, March 20th the firebirds will travel to Oxford, Ohio to attend the Mount St. Joseph University Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Indian Ridge Golf Club.
