RACINE, Wis. — The Carthage women's bowling team wrapped up day one of the first-ever Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Bowling Championship on Saturday at Castle Lanes. 

Playing as the No. 6 seed in the tournament, Carthage won over the No. 3 seed Elmhurst 944-892 in the first match of the day. Cassie Hyland had a 233 in the match. 

In the fifth match of the day, Carthage lost to the No. 2 seed Augustana (Ill.) 822-752 however, in the seventh match Carthage beat No. 5 seed North Central 862-601. Emma Topham had a 191 while Melissa Barnett recorded a 187. The Firebirds concluded the day with an 820-811 win over No. 4 seed Aurora 820-811. Hyland had a 189 and Emily Catalano scored a 173 to lead Carthage. 

The Firebirds advance to the CCIW Women's Bowling Championship semifinal round as they will play Augustana (Ill.). The winner will face Marian on Saturday, March 20 at Castle Lanes. The first match will begin at 12:30 p.m.
