JANESVILLE, Wis. — The Carthage College men's tennis team claimed a pair of victories today, defeating Edgewood 8-1 before coming out on top of a 5-4 thriller with Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday at the Premier Tennis and Fitness center.

The Red Men (4-2) began the day by sweeping the doubles against Edgewood (0-3), as the duo of Kevin Dunn and Austin Sternbach got things started with an 8-3 win at court three. John Nykyforuk and Tripp Schulte would claim an 8-3 victory as well at court two, with Yanozie Amadike and Matt Krzewinski coming out on top of a tight contest at the lead court, 8-7 (1).

In singles, Patrick Anderson won his match at court four 6-0, 6-2, before Andre Antreassian clinched the dual match win for Carthage with a 6-2, 6-0 win at court two. While Edgewood picked up a win at court six, the Red Men would clinch the remaining matchups at courts one, three, and five to pick up the 8-1 team win.

While their match against Wisconsin-La Crosse (1-3) began with a pair of doubles losses, Carthage responded with an 8-4 win by Antreassian and Daniel Moore at court one to make it a 2-1 match heading into singles. The reigning conference player of the week, Amadike tied the dual match at two with the first singles win, taking his contest 6-1, 6-2 at court three, the only singles match to finish in straight sets.

At court one, Moore rebounded from a loss in his first set with a 6-2 win in the second, before taking the tiebreaker 10-6. At court five, Krzewinski would give the Red Men a 4-2 lead over UW-La Crosse with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory. However, the Eagles would even the dual match at four with wins at courts six and two, moving all eyes to the deciding match at court four.

After muscling out a 7-5 win in set one, Antreassian would drop his second, forcing a tiebreaker to decide the dual match. It was a back-and-forth contest but the junior from Racine, Wis. would come out on top for the Red Men with a 14-12 tiebreaker win, clinching the 5-4 win for Carthage.

"What a match," said head coach Brady Lindsley. "Five out of the six singles went to third-set breakers with the last match going to 14-12. Both of those guys fought off match points before Andre pulled it out. I'm very proud of these guys, they battled against a very good team and came out on top today."

Up next for the Red Men is a home dual match with Illinois Tech next Friday, February 21 at 3 p.m. at the Kenosha Life Sport Athletic Club.
