Salem and McKendree Too Much For Lady Reds

LEBANON, ILL.—Day two of the McKendree University Invitational was upon the Carthage College women's water polo team on Sunday, where they embarked on a pair of matches against Salem University and McKendree University at the McKendree Rec Plex in Lebanon, Illinois. The Lady Reds capped their 2019 regular season with an 8-2 loss to Salem in the first game, followed by a 12-3 loss to McKendree.
 
The losses drop Carthage's record to 2-13, 2-6 CWPA.

Both Lady Reds goals occurred in the second half, where Maddi Marsh and Meghan Fisher each contributed one. Fisher, who led all players with nine shots in the contest, contributed Carthage's lone steal. Heather Walker was credited an assist on Fisher's goal with 2:35 left in the fourth quarter.
 
Margherita Garibbo, Maryanna Antoniou and Annefleur ten Bloemendal each netted a pair of goals for a Salem offense that held a slight 31-27 advantage in shots.
 
Lady Reds goalkeeper Emma Jeronimus made 11 saves in the complete-game effort. Jeronimus's counterpart Philippa Piper tallied 12 saves for Salem.

Maddi Marsh netted a pair of goals for the Lady Reds offense, while Kayli Sayatovic contributed one. Marsh paced Carthage with six shot attempts, while Fisher, Arianna Dakuras and Walker each tallied three shots.
 
Morgan Fingerson commanded Carthage defensively with three steals, and an assist on Sayatovic's goal with 6:13 left in the fourth.
 
Abby Burton notched a game-high four goals for McKendree while Carley Manuel and Maddy Bolton each notched two.
 
Jeronimus notched six saves in net for the Lady Reds. McKendree goalies Isabella Strimling and Kim Fay combined for eight saves. 

The Lady Reds will embark on the 2019 CWPA Championships on April 12 - April 14 at Connecticut College's Lott Natatorium in New London, Conn. The #7 seed Lady Reds will face #10 seed Utica College on Friday, April 12 at 2:15 p.m.
