KENOSHA, WIS.—The final non-conference bout of 2019 pitted the Carthage College softball team at home against UW-Whitewater on Thursday. The Warhawks, who came in at #1 on the April 25 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Ranking, topped the Lady Reds by scores of 10-6 and 4-0 (8 Innings). Carthage entered the game at #4 on the April 25 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Ranking.

The Lady Reds fall to 22-10, 8-4 CCIW while UW-Whitewater also exited Thursday with a 22-10, 7-3 CCIWÂ mark.

The opening four innings resulted in a 10-0 lead for UW-Whitewater, but Carthage put an end to the eight-run mercy rule with a six-run fifth inning, where they batted around the lineup. Three of Carthage's fifth-inning runs occurred on
Madison Ganir's bases-loaded single up the middle that sailed past the UW-Whitewater centerfielder, which cut the score to 10-3 and sent her to third base.
Donna Stevens drove-in Ganir with a double to center field to narrow the Lady Reds' deficit to 10-4. A pair of UW-Whitewater errors turned into Carthage runs, courtesy of Stevens and Koziczkowski en route to a 10-6 score.

Stefanie Guercio surrendered five hits and four runs (two earned), and struckout four batters in the hard-fought loss.

The score remained 0-0 after seven innings before three Lady Reds errors in the eighth inning proved costly in a 4-0 loss to UW-Whitewater. Bella Matthias tallied nine strikeouts and allowed one hit in the complete-game pitching victory for the Warhawks.
