NAPERVILLE, ILL.—The Carthage College softball team concluded their six-game road stand with a Tuesday-afternoon doubleheader at North Central College (Ill.). In a pair of low-scoring affairs, the Lady Reds split with the Cardinals by dropping the first game 4-3, and coming up on top 2-0 in the second bout at the Shanower Family Softball Field.

The split sends Carthage's record to 17-7, 5-3 CCIW while North Central exits Tuesday with a 21-7, 5-1 CCIW mark.

The Cardinals came from behind as Carthage set the tone with a 3-0 advantage after the second inning. The Lady Reds tacked on a first-inning run when
Donna Stevens walked before she scored from first base on
Naomi Alonzo's double to make the score 1-0. The RBI-double paid dividends for Carthage in the second inning when
Kelsey Domagala drove-in Courtney Polasnki, who singled, to push the score to 2-0.
Brooke Sefcik pushed Domagala to third base with a single, which set up
Alexandra Millett's RBI-groundout that widened Carthage's lead to 3-0 in the second inning.

North Central drove-in all four unanswered runs with a double en route to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory. Emily Miller's third-inning double resulted in one run while Breanna Adams' bases-loaded two bagger in the fourth resulted in three runs.

Lady Reds pitcher
Stefanie Guercio allowed six hits and four runs and struckout six batters in the complete-game loss. Breanna Adams allowed six hits, three runs and tallied six strikeouts in the complete-game pitching victory for North Central. Alonzo, Polanski, Domagala and Sefcik each notched a hit for Carthage.

Lady Reds 2, North Central 0

Carthage mustered just three hits against the Cardinals, which was all they needed. Two of them came from
Ellie Bernero, who drove-in
Rylee Johnson with a fourth-inning double and a sixth-inning triple to give Carthage a 2-0 lead. Johnson scored both of Carthage's runs and had their other hit.

Alonzo allowed three hits, no runs and notched three strikeouts over six innings in the pitching circle before Bernero picked up the save with two strikeouts in the seventh inning.

The Lady Reds will host St. Norbert College (DH) tomorrow, Wednesday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m.Â
