NEW LONDON, CONN. — The Carthage College women's water polo team will be competing in the 2019 CWPA Division III Championship at the Lott Natatorium (Connecticut College) in New London, Connecticut on Friday, April 12 beginning at 2:15 p.m. (ET) through Sunday, April 14. This Lady Reds have taken third place at the event in each of the last five seasons.
Carthage (2-13, 2-6), currently seeded #7 in the tournament, will be starting off in game two of the tournament playing against #10 seed Utica on Friday, April 12 at 2:15 p.m (ET).
Laura Coffman, finishing up her fourth season with the Carthage College women's water polo team, is assisted by
Sam Craig and
Carly Strass. Utica has gone 0-10 overall this season and 0-8 in the conference (CWPA). Erin Knight enters her tenth season as head coach of the Utica water polo team.
The next game on Friday at 3:30 p.m. (ET) will feature the third seed, Austin College (6-8 overall, 5-3 conference) versus the sixth seed Penn State Behrend (3-18, 0-3), followed by fourth seed Connecticut College (7-8, 6-2) playing against the fifth seed Monmouth College (5-10, 4-4). Game five (6:00 p.m. ET) will consist of the winner of game one versus the number one seed, Macalester (9-5, 8-0), who sports a four-game winning streak. Closing out day one (Friday) of the CWPA Championships will be the number two seed Grove City College (9-7, 8-0) against the winner of game two at 7:15 p.m. (ET).
Kicking off game seven at 10:00 a.m. (ET) on Saturday will be the losers of games three and one; game eight will be the losers of game four versus losers of game two. At 12:45 p.m. (ET) the winners of game five and four will face off, followed by the winners of game six and three at 2:15 p.m. (ET). At the start time of 3:30 p.m. (ET) the winner of game seven will compete against the loser of game six. Game 12 will begin at 4:45 p.m. (ET) and will display the winner of game eight and the loser of game five. The second day of the tournament will conclude with a battle between the losers of games seven and eight for who will take ninth place overall.
Day three of the tournament (Sunday) will commence at 9:00 a.m, (ET) with action from the losers of games eleven and twelve, the winner of that game will earn seventh place in the tournament. At 10:30 a.m. (ET) the winners of game twelve and eleven will face off to determine who will be in fifth place. Noon (ET) will determine who will be taking the bronze with a face-off between the losers of game ten and nine. To wrap-up the tournament at 1:30 p.m. (ET) the final game will be played against the winners of game nine and ten to discover the victors of the CWPA Championships.
