CLERMONT, FLA.—Day two of the Carthage College softball team's six-day Florida trek matched them against in-region foe Monmouth College, and Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference member Bridgewater State University on Monday. Liz Hippen, who tossed a no-hitter for Monmouth in their 13-0 victory over Pittsburgh-Greensburg on Sunday, propelled Monmouth over the Lady Reds 7-0 with a complete-game, eight-strikeout performance.
Naomi Alonzo's three-run home run powered a Carthage five-run first inning against Bridgewater State, enough to secure an 8-6 victory.
Â
The split gives Carthage a 2-2, 0-0 CCIW mark. The Scots improved to 3-0, 0-0 MWC while Bridgewater State fell to 2-4, 0-0 MASCAC.

The seventh inning saw Carthage execute their first triple play since April 9, 2009 when shortstop
Courtney Polanski caught Morgan Pizur-Kranc's lineout with the bases loaded. Polanski then tagged out Brittney Enos at second base before she threw out Lauren Sperry at first base to complete the rare trifecta.Â

Brooke Sefcik and
Jennifer Michuda each contributed one hit for the Lady Reds offense.

Makenzie Miller's early-career dominance continued when her two-out, RBI-single later in the first inning made the score 4-0.
Kaitlin Shaffer followed suit with her first NCAA hit, which scored Miller to push Carthage's lead to 5-0.
Â
The Bears responded in the bottom half of the first when Shannon Grindle's two-run home run cut the margin to 5-2. The Lady Reds added one run in the second, and two more in the fourth en route to an 8-2 lead thanks to a pair of
Alexandra Millett RBI-hits.

Â
Bridgewater State added two runs in each the fifth and seventh innings to cut their deficit to 8-6, where things stayed final.
