MILWAUKEE, WIS.—The Carthage College softball team faced their second Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference opponent of the week in Wisconsin Lutheran College (DH) at the Neumann Family Softball Field in Milwaukee, Wis. on Wednesday afternoon. One run was enough for the Lady Reds in game one as they registered a 1-0 victory over the Warriors, thanks to
Ellie Bernero's first-career, complete-game pitching shutout.
Naomi Alonzo's complete-game effort, along with 11 hits from her offense propelled Carthage over Wisconsin Lutheran 4-1 in game two.
The sweep gives Carthage a 10-10, 0-0 CCIW mark while the Warriors fall to 5-7, 0-0 NACC.

Ellie Bernero scored the contest's lone run, and provided a complete-game shutout on the pitching rubber for the Lady Reds. She allowed just three hits and struck out four batters in the process.
Bernero set the tone in the fifth inning when she reached on an error, and advanced to second base off
Kaitlin Shaffer's sacrifice bunt. She circled the bases off
Emmily Zinkiewicz's RBI-single to right field to give Carthage a 1-0 lead and eventual victory.
Zinkiewicz and
Vivian Juarez paced the Carthage offense with two hits apiece. The Lady Reds outhit Wisconsin Lutheran 8-3 in the game.

Carthage broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning, where
Jennifer Michuda set the tone with a single.
Brooke Sefcik followed with a double to put runners on the corners before Michuda scored on a wild pitch to give the Lady Reds a 1-0 edge. Sefick, who touched third off the ensuing wild pitch, scored off Bernero's groundout to make the score 2-0.
The Warriors responded with their first run of the doubleheader in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut Carthage's lead to 2-1. Lady Reds starting pitcher Alonzo helped herself with an RBI-single that scored Zinkiewicz in the fifth inning to push the Carthage lead to 3-1. She knocked in Zinkiewicz again in the seventh inning, this time with a double to make the score 4-1.
Zinkiewicz,
Courtney Polanski, Alonzo, Michuda and Sefcik each had two hits for the Carthage offense.
The Lady Reds will enjoy a week hiatus before they host Elmhurst College (DH) in the 2018 CCIW opener on Wednesday, April 4 at 3:00 p.m.
