KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage College men's swimming and diving team turned in a pair of victories on Saturday, defeating the Illinois Institute of Technology and College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe, Illinois Wesleyan University at Koenitzer Aquatic Center.
The pair of wins moves the Red Men to 3-0 in head-to-head competition in 2018, while IIT went 1-1 on the day with a win over Illinois Wesleyan, who finished 0-2.
The Red Men won eight individual events on Saturday and took first in both relays as they cruised to their wins over the Illinois institutions.
Jack Wallar had the best individual day for the Red Men, taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke [59.91] and 200 breaststroke [2:15.10]. Six other Red Men took first in their respective events win in the 200 freestyle by
Mitchell Mages [1:47.00], 200 butterfly by
Nick Seroni [1:58.14], 50 free by
Nicholas Nevins [21.81], 200 back by
Sam Gabriel [1:54.88], one-meter dive by
Connor Pierson [404.50] and finally 100 back by
Mitch Scarski in his first meet of the season.
The Red Men swept the relays with Gabriel, Mages, Seroni and Nevins taking first in the 200 medley relay [1:35.33], while Nevins,
Garrett Shuldes,
Ethan Hare and
Ben Wawczak won the 200 free relay [1:29.46].
Next up for Carthage, the Red Men will head to the University of Chicago for the three-day Phoenix Fall Classic. The weekend-long event will begin Friday and run through Sunday.
