KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College softball team hosted Midwest Conference member St. Norbert College in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. Pitcher

Â
Goldsmith, who pitched the first five innings for Carthage, received run support early. It started with a four-run Lady Reds first inning when
Emmily Zinkiewicz reached on an error and advanced to second base on
Vivian Juarez's sacrifice bunt. This set up
Kristine Herdegen's infield single that scored Zinkiewicz to give Carthage a 1-0 lead.
Â
Darian Pelsor, who singled, reached second base on a muffed ball offÂ
Kayla Uhwat-Vicicondi's fielder's choice to load the bases. This paved the way for
Hailey Rothstein's two-run double, and
Rachel Fanella's sacrifice fly to widen the Lady Red's advantage to 4-0.
Â
Carthage topped out at 5-0 in the third inning off Fanella's RBIÂ groundout that plated Pelsor, who singled.
Â
Pelsor went two-for-three at the dish for Carthage while five other Lady Reds tallied a hit in the contest.

The second inning saw
Jennifer Michuda hit a sacrifice fly, and
Ellie Bernero steal home plate to give Carthage a 2-0 cushion. The Green Knights took the driver's seat in the third inning, thanks to RBIÂ doubles from Leigh Grall and Tia Danforth to make the score 3-2.
Â
Pelsor, who led off the third inning with a walk, reached third base off Rothstein's single and Uhwat's groundout. She later scored off Fanella's RBI groundout to knot the game at three runs apiece.
Â
The Green Knights took a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning before Herdegen's RBIÂ single tied the game 4-4 in the bottom half of the inning. Michuda (who pinch ran for
Lauren Jones) scored on the play.
Â
Amanda Diedrich put the nail in the coffin with a fifth-inning, two-run home run that gave the Green Knights a 6-4 lead and eventual victory.
Â
Eight Lady Reds notched a hit in the contest.
Katie Herron,
Allie Wesel and Fanella each saw time on the pitching rubber for Carthage.

The Lady Reds will open CCIW play at Elmhurst College (DH) on Saturday, April 1 at 12:00 p.m.
