NEW LONDON, CONN.—The Carthage College women's water polo team returned to the pool on Friday evening following a 19-day hiatus from competition. The Lady Reds faced Grove City College and host Connecticut College on day one of the CWPA League Tournament I at the Lott Natatorium.

The Camels from Connecticut College and Carthage entered Friday's festivities each ranked #3 on the March 22 CWPA Division III Top-Five Poll. The Wolverines from Grove City College came in at #5 on the same poll.

Carthage opened the day with an 11-3 victory over Grove City, followed by a 12-6 win over Connecticut College.
The Lady Reds improve to 6-2, 4-1 CWPA.Â

Maggie Hennigan was a presence on both ends of the pool with three goals and three assists for six points along with three steals. Goalkeeper
Emma Jeronimus was also a double threat in the pool with 10 saves and four assists in the contest.

Maddie Gronset each added a pair of goals to the Lady Reds offense.
Jane Eckles and
Madi Anderson each tallied a goal for Carthage in the contest.

Eckles, who went two-for-two on penalty shots, notched five goals for Carthage in the contest.

Strass netted a hat trick for the Lady Reds while Hennigan and Gronset each contributed a pair of goals. Â Strass chipped in three steals on the defensive end of the pool.
Mack Ryan added two steals and three assists in the contest.

Lady Reds goalkeeper Jeronimus tallied nine saves in the contest.

Carthage will face Penn State Behrend (11:40 a.m. ET), Washington & Jefferson (3:40 p.m. ET) and Macalester College (7:40 p.m. ET) on day two of the CWPA League Tournament I tomorrow, Saturday, March 25.Â
