CLERMONT, FLA.—The Carthage College softball team faced Grinnell College and #13 UW-Eau Claire at the Legends Way Complex in Clermont, Fla. on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Reds tallied their third-consecutive split with a 6-2 victory over Grinnell College, and a 7-1 loss to #13 UW-Eau Claire.

The Pioneers tallied their only lead of the game in the second inning when Emily Jordan hit a sharp line drive that bounced off Lady Reds pitcher
Allie Wesel and into foul territory. Melissa Anderson scored from second base on the play to give Grinnell a 1-0 lead.Â

Kristine Herdegen gave Carthage a 2-1 lead with a third-inning, two-run double that scored
Emmily Zinkiewicz and
Vivian Juarez, who both reached base on a single.

Brooke Sefcik poured more salt on the Pioneer's wound with a three-run home run to widen Carthage's advantage to 5-1. Grinnell responded with a fourth-inning run to narrow their deficit to 5-2. Herdegen got that run back for Carthage in the fifth inning when she singled, and scored on
Kayla Uhwat-Vicicondi's groundout to make the score 6-2.

Wesel registered the complete-game victory on the pitching rubber for the Lady Reds. She scattered six hits and struck out nine batters to improve her win-loss record to 1-1 on the season. Zinkiewicz and Herdegen each went two-for-four at the plate for Carthage.

The Lady Reds drew first blood against the #13 Blugolds in the second inning when Uhwat hit a one-out triple to right field. She eventually scored onÂ
Lauren Jones' groundout to make the score 1-0.

That's all Carthage had in the tank offensively as they only mustered one hit the remainder of the contest. UW-Eau Claire tallied one run in each the fourth and fifth inning en route to a 2-1 lead over the Lady Reds. A four-run sixth inning for the Blugolds was too much for the Lady Reds to overcome in a 7-1 loss.

Katie Herron struck out five batters in three innings of work.
Rachel Fanella and
Amy Goldsmith each pitched two innings for the Lady Reds. UW-Eau Claire pitcher Lauren Blasczyk scattered two hits and struck out five batters in the complete-game victory.

Carthage will end their 10-game Florida stand tomorrow, Wednesday, March 22 against University of St. Thomas at 9:00 a.m. (ET), and Hendrix College at 11:30 a.m. (ET).
