Hoosier Invite Next for Water Polo

 


KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's water polo team (0-0, 0-0 CWPA) will compete in the Indiana University Hoosier Invite on Friday, February 24 - Saturday, February 25 at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center. The Lady Reds will face Indiana University in an exhibition bout on Friday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. Carthage will open regular-season play on Saturday February 25 against Cal Baptist at 10:00 a.m., and McKendree University at 5:30 p.m.
 
The Lady Reds sit at #4 on the February 22 CWPA Division III Poll.
 
ABOUT #17 INDIANA UNIVERSITY (6-2, 0-0 CWPA)
 
The Hoosiers, who rank #3 on the February 22 CWPA Top-10 Poll, registered a 4-0 mark at the Brown University Bruno Classic on February 4-5. Joelle Nacouszi paces Indiana in scoring with 13 goals and six assists for 19 points. Sarah Myers leads the Hoosiers on the defensive end of the pool with 14 steals, while Nacouszi ranks second with eight.
 
Jessica Gaudreault owns a .601 save percentage and 86 saves in eight goaltending starts this season.
 
The 2016-17 season is Ryan Castle's first as Indiana University head women's water polo coach. He arrived to the Hoosiers following two seasons as associate head coach for the University of Hawaii.
 
ABOUT CAL BAPTIST (5-6, 0-0 GCC)
 
The Lancers, a member of the Gold Coast Conference, will enter the weekend off a 9-6 loss to UC San Diego on February 18.
 
Paizlee Dreyer paces Cal Baptist with 12 goals and eight assists for 20 points. Lizette Perez and Valerie Spezzaferri are tied for second on the Lancer scoring chart with 18 points each.
 
Lina Medrieros has seen the majority of time at goaltender for the Lancers. She owns a .483 save percentage in seven starts on the season. She also leads the team defensively with 16 steals.
 
Jonathan Miller is in his fourth season as Cal Baptist head women's water polo coach.
 
ABOUT MCKENDREE UNIVERSITY (3-5)
 
McKendree will take a three-game win streak into the Indiana Hoosier Invite. This includes victories over Miami University (19-3), Lindenwood (16-9) and Illinois State (15-3).
 
Colleen Lischwe is in her first season as McKendree head women's water polo coach.
 
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lady Reds will open CWPA play at the Monmouth College Tournament on March 4-5.
