The Carthage College women's water polo team (11-6, 9-5 Collegiate Water Polo Association) finished third at the Friday-Saturday, April,10-11 Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Association Division III Tournament at Grove City College's James E. Longnecker Pool in Grove City, Pa.
The Lady Reds won the third-place match on Saturday, April 11 with an 11-10 triple-overtime decision over Grove City College. Carthage defeated Penn State-Behrend, 7-4, on Friday, April 10 before losing to No. 9 Washington & Jefferson College, 11-5, on Saturday, April 11 in the pool-play round.
Brittany Wallace (Jr., Niles, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy) scored three goals in the win over Grove City, including the game-winning goal on a five-meter penalty shot in the third overtime period.
Kelly Baumgartner (Sr., Orland Hills, Ill./Tinley Park-Andrew) also scored three times, with
Carly Strass (So., Western Springs, Ill./La Grange-Lyons Township) collecting four assists and goalkeeper
Ashley McGhee (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) 12 saves.
In the Penn State-Behrend match,
Allie Booth (Fr., Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) scored three goals and
Colleen Koepke (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) two goals, with McGhee collecting six saves. Wallace scored two goals in the Washington & Jefferson contest, while Booth had two assists and McGhee nine saves.
Carthage's
Ashley McGhee and
Allie Booth were both named first-team all-tournament.
