The Carthage College men's tennis team (2-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin)
split a Saturday, Feb. 14 double-dual match at the Hitters Sportsplex in Middleton, Wis. The Red Men fell to Wisconsin-La Crosse (4-2), 5-4, before defeating Edgewood College (1-4), 8-1.
Pawel Jaworski (So., Deerfield, Ill./Lincolnshire-Stevenson, 5-2) fell to La Crosse's Peter Stadum, 6-2, 6-3 and then defeated Edgewood's Austin Papenthien, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Jordan Verbauwhede (Jr., Whitelawe, Wis./Manitowoc-Lincoln, 5-4) defeated La Crosse, but then fell to Edgewood at No. 2 singles.
Alex Boomgarden (Jr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 7-1) won both of his matches at No. 3 singles, as did
Chris Conley (Jr., Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield Academy, 7-2) at No. 4 singles.
Alex Ferruzzi (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central, 5-2) fell to La Crosse's Dante Pitera, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, but then defeated Edgewood's Michael Wanta, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Nick Stephan (Sr., Long Grove, Ill./Lincolnshire-Stevenson, 5-2) split at No. 6 singles, losing to La Crosse and then winning against Edgewood.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of Jaworski and Verbauwhede (2-2) fell to La Crosse, 9-7, but then defeated Edgewood, 8-5. The duo of Boomgarden and Conley (4-0) won both of their matches at No. 2 doubles, while the pair of Stephan and
Conor Moon (Sr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock, Ill.-Marian Central Catholic, 2-2) lost to La Crosse, but then won against Edgewood.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, the Red Men travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to play a double-dual match against Coe College at 9 a.m. and Loras College at 12:30 p.m. at the Clarke Racquet Center.
