The Carthage College women's water polo team (4-0, 0-0 Collegiate Water Polo Association) went 4-0 at the Friday-Saturday, March 14-15 Collegiate Water Polo Association Tournament I at the Utica College Pool in Utica, N.Y., before play was halted due to an air-quality issue in the facility.
On Friday, March 14, The Lady Reds defeated the host-Pioneers, 13-5, and won over Macalester College by a 9-6 margin. In the win over Utica,
Erin McCook (So., Long Grove, Ill./Lincolnshire-Stevenson) and
Brittany Wallace (So., Niles, Ill./Wilmette-Loyola Academy) scored three goals each with goalkeeper
Ashley McGhee (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) collecting eight saves. Wallace and
Jackie Knightly (Jr., Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) scored two goals each in the win over Macalester with McGhee picking up eight saves.
On Saturday, March 15, the Lady Red knocked off Grove City College, 12-9 and upset No. 9 Washington & Jefferson College, 9-8. In the win over Grove City,
Tya Crosse (Jr., Corona, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) scored three goals, with
Ember McCoy and
Megan Gillis picking up two assists each. McGhee collected 20 saves. In the win over Grove City,
Kelly Baumgartner recorded a game-saving block.
Brittany Wallace scored five goals, with McGhee collecting 22 saves.
Carthage's final game on Saturday against No. 10 Connecticut College was canceled, as were Sunday, March 16 contests against Monmouth College and Penn State-Behrend. The Lady Reds play host to the Carthage Tournament on Saturday-Sunday, March 22-23 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis.
