The Carthage College men's tennis team (6-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) split a Saturday, Feb. 22 double-dual match at Coe College's Clark Racquet Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Carthage lost to Coe (6-0), 8-1, before defeating Wartburg College (2-2) by a 7-2 margin.
 
Carthage's Alex Boomgarden (So., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 9-6) lost to Coe's Noah Sprinkel at No. 1 singles, Sprinkel winning, 6-4, 6-0, before defeating Wartburg's Koo Miyake, 6-1, 6-2.  Sprinkel was listed as No. 19 in the fall 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national singles rankings.  Ryan Jump (So., Mundelein, Ill., 11-3) lost to Coe Riley Galbraith, the latter winning, 6-3, 6-3, before winning over Wartburg's Dayton Stevens, 6-4, 6-2.  Pawel Jaworski (Fr., Deerfield, Ill., 8-4) split at No. 3 single, as did Chris Conley (So., Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield Academy, 6-6) at No. 4 singles, Tony O'Connell (So., Roswell, N.M./Natabua, 10-3) at No. 5 singles and Alex Ferruzzi (So., Kenosha, Wis./Salem-Westosha Central, 7-4) at No. 6 singles.
 
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Alex Boomgarden and Pawel Jaworski (4-4) lost to Coe's Noah Sprinkel and Riley Galbraith, ranked 25th nationally, 8-2, but defeated Wartburg's Koo Miyake by an 8-5 margin.  Carthage's No. 2 team of Ryan Jump and Chris Conley (6-4) split their two matches, and the No. 3 tandem of Tony O'Connell and Conor Moon (Jr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock (Ill.)-Marian Central Catholic, 4-3) lost twice.
 
Carthage travels to Oshkosh, Wis., on Saturday, March 1 for a double-dual match at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.  The Red Men play Wisconsin-Oshkosh at Noon and the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 4 p.m.
