The Carthage College men's tennis team (11-9, 2-3 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) split a Saturday, April 27 double-dual match at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wis.  The Red Men lost to CCIW-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 13-7, 6-0 CCIW), 5-4, before blanking non-conference-opponent Edgewood College (7-23) by a 9-0 margin.
 
In the Augustana contest, Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (Sr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 18-12) won his No. 1 singles match over the Vikings' Harald Olsson, 6-1, 6-2.  Alex Boomgarden (Fr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 21-8) defeated Will Palmer at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.  Ryan Jump (Fr., Mundelein, Ill., 21-6) was a winner at No. 3 singles.  Juan Robles (So., Bogota, Columbia, 6-16) lost to Augustana at No. 4 singles, as did Brian Howes (Sr., Bartlett, Ill., 19-10) at No. 5 singles and Tom Klassman (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove, 11-14) at No 6 singles.
 
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Boomgarden (18-10) was a winner over the Vikings' Palmer and Wall, 8-2.  The No. 2 doubles team of Brandon Curtis (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and Conor Moon (So., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock (Ill.)-Marian Central Catholic, 7-15) lost their match, as did the No. 3 tandem of Jump and Howes (12-10).  

Carthage travels to Bloomington, Ill., on Friday-Saturday, May 3-4 for the CCIW Men's Tennis Championship at Illinois Wesleyan University's Beadles-Morse Tennis Courts. The Red Men, seeded fourth in the championship, will play the fifth-seeded team (either Illinois Wesleyan or North Central College) on Friday, May 3 at 11 a.m.
