The Carthage College men's tennis team (8-7, 1-1 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) shut out Wisconsin Lutheran College (4-5), 9-0, on Sunday, April 14 at the East Side Tennis & Racquet Club in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage's
Jeff Lotz Jr. (Sr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 19-12) won his No. 1 singles match over the Warriors' Lee Johnson, 6-4, 6-4.
Alex Boomgarden (Fr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 16-8) defeated Ryan Sallmann at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Ryan Jump (Fr., Mundelein, Ill., 16-6) was a winner at No. 3 singles, as was
Juan Robles (So., Bogota, Columbia, 5-13) at No. 4 singles,
Brian Howes (Sr., Bartlett, Ill., 17-8) at No. 5 singles and
Tom Klassman (Sr., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove, 10-11) at No 6 singles.
Carthage's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Boomgarden (13-10) was a winner over Wisconsin Lutheran, as was the No. 2 doubles team of
Conor Moon (So., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock (Ill.)-Marian Central Catholic) and
Brandon Curtis (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge, 7-8) and the No. 3 tandem of Howes and Jump (10-8). Carthage travels to Elmhurst, Ill., on Wednesday, April 17 to play CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (8-7, 2-0 CCIW) in a 3 p.m. match at the Lester Brune Tennis Courts.
