The Carthage College women's water polo team (2-4) went 2-4 at the Friday-Sunday, March 22-24 Collegiate Water Polo Association Tournament I at Penn State University-Behrend's Junker Center Pool in Erie, Pa.
On Friday, March 22, the Lady Reds fell to Grove City College, 10-3, before losing to Washington & Jefferson College by an 8-5 margin. On Saturday, March 23, the Lady Reds lost to Connecticut College, 12-7, before defeating Penn State-Behrend by a 15-2 margin. Carthage concluded tournament play on Sunday, March 24 by splitting two matches, losing to Macalester College, 9-7, but winning over Utica College by a 14-7 margin.
Kelly Baumgartner (So., Orland Hills, Ill,/Tinley Park-Andrew),
Jordan Crocker (So., Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and
Megan Gillis (So., Jenison, Mich.) scored Carthage's three goals in the loss to Grove City.
Tya Crosse (So., Corona, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga) scored two goals against Washington & Jefferson, with Crocker,
Hannah Duke (Jr., Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates-Conant) and Colleen Koepke (Fr., Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) scoring one goal each.
Jordan Crocker scored three goals against Connecticut and
Hannah Duke two. In the Penn State-Behrend match,
Tya Crosse scored four times. In the loss to Macalester, Erin McCook (Fr., Long Grove, Ill./Lincolnshire-Stevenson) scored twice.
Tya Crosse and
Hannah Duke each scored three times in the tournament-finale win over Utica.
Carthage plays host to the Collegiate Water Polo Association Tournament II on Friday-Sunday, April 5-7 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. On Friday, April 5, the Lady Reds play Macalester College at 1:20 p.m. and Penn State-Behrend at 6:40 p.m. On Saturday, April 6, Carthage takes on Grove City College at 12:20 p.m. and Washington & Jefferson College at 5:40 p.m. The Lady Reds conclude tournament play on Sunday, April 7 with a 10:20 a.m. match versus Utica College and a 2:40 p.m. contest versus Connecticut College.
