The Carthage College men's swimming team (1-2 dual-meet record) defeated Illinois Wesleyan University, 109-97, on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Fort Natatorium in Bloomington, Ill.

Carthage's Derrick Rendon (So., Waukesha, Wis./South) won the both 100 breastroke (1:04.40) and the 100 butterfly (56.39), while finishing second in the 200 individual medley (2:08.84).  Steven Mathe (Sr., Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein-Carmel Catholic) won both the 100 freestyle (51.75) and the 200 freestyle (1:50.85).  Austin Davidson (Fr., Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) won both the 200 butterfly (2:04.83) and the 500 freestyle (5:06.19), and Eric Primdahl (Jr., Kildeer, Ill./Arlington Heights-St. Viator) took first place in both the 50 freestyle (23.35) and the 100 backstroke (2:05.67).  Kyle Rasmussen (Jr., Mount Horeb, Wis.) won the 100 backstroke (58.86), and Bryce Peters (Fr., Palos Heights, Ill./Oak Park-Fenwick) won the 200 breaststroke (2:21.24). 
 
Sam Hoffman (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) was second in the 1,000 freestyle (11:07.63).  The Red Men also picked up a win from their 200 medley relay team of Mitch Reecher (So., Byron, Ill.), Lucas Linder (Fr., Bensenville, Ill./Fenton), Scott Reher (So., Elmhurst, Ill./York) and Ron Schaefer (So., Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Kenosha-Tremper). 

“We had some pleasant surprises with guys in different events,” said Carthage coach Greg Earhart.  “Steve Mathe led us with aggressive racing in the both the 100 and 200 freestyle.  Kyle Rasmussen's 100 backstroke and Sam Hoffman's 1000 were both breakthroughs."  Carthage travels to Crawfordsville, Ind., on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 16-17 for the Wabash College “Patrick Woehnker Invitational” at the Wabash Class of 1950 Natatorium (6 p.m./11 a.m., EDT).
