The Carthage College women's water polo team (10-2), ranked 10th in the April 6 Collegiate Water Polo Association's NCAA Division III poll, went 5-0 to win the Friday-Sunday, April 8-10 Collegiate Water Polo Association's "Central vs. West Tournament" at Carthage's Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis.
On Friday, April 8, Carthage defeated Wheaton College (Ill.), 10-3, and won over Grove City College by a 10-7 margin. In the win over Wheaton (Ill.), goalkeeper Christine Menzenberger (Sr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East) led the way with eight saves, three goals-against, a steal and an assist. Mari Paraskevopoulos (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) collected four goals with an assist and a steal. Kaitlin Duke (Sr., Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates-Conant), Kimmy Genian (Sr., Gurnee, Ill./Highland Park) and Hillary Veselik (Fr., Darien, Ill. Racine, Wis./Kenosha-Bradford In the Grove City contest, Menzenberger had 10 saves and an assist. Genian collected four goals with three assists and five drawn kick outs, and Duke added two goals with three steals.
The Lady Reds defeated Macalester College, 17-9, on Saturday, April 9. On Sunday, April 10, Carthage defeated Washington & Jefferson College, 13-3, and Chatham University, 16-6. Grove City was second in the tournament with a 4-1 record. Wheaton (Ill.) was third at 3-2, Washington & Jefferson 2-3, Chatham 1-4, and Macalester went 0-5.
Carthage travels to St. Paul, Minn., on Friday-Saturday, April 29-30 for the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Division III Championship at Macalester College.
