The Carthage College women's water polo team (5-2), ranked 10th in the March 16 Collegiate Water Polo Association's NCAA Division III poll, went 5-0 at the Friday-Sunday, March 18-20 Penn State-Behrend Tournament in Erie, Pa.
On Friday, March 18, Carthage defeated Macalester College, 13-5, and won over Wheaton College (Ill.) by a 10-2 margin. In the win over Macalester, Carthage's Hillary Veselik (Fr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) scored four goals with an assist and Kimmy Genian (Sr., Gurnee, Ill./Highland Park) three goals. Agnes Wojtas (So., Palatine, Ill.) collected five assists and Kaitlin Duke (Fr., Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates-Conant) three. Veselik had seven goals, five in the second period, in the win over Wheaton (Ill.), while Wojtas scored one goal with three assists. Mari Paraskevopoulos (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey), Hannah Duke (Fr., Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates-Conant) and Kaitlin Duke had four steals each, and goal keeper Christine Menzenberger (Sr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East) had 10 saves.
On Saturday, March 19, Carthage defeated Penn State-Behrend, 14-1, and Utica College, 12-3. Veselik scored four goals and Kaitlin Duke three in the Penn State-Behrend match. Kati Pedersen (Jr., Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) had five goals and Veselik four in the win over Utica.
On Sunday, March 20, the Lady Reds wrapped up tournament play with a 19-4 win over Connecticut College. Genian scored six goals and Veselik four against Connecticut.
