The Carthage College women's water polo team (0-2), ranked 10th in the March 16 Collegiate Water Polo Association's NCAA Division III poll, lost two matches on Wednesday, March 16 at Gannon University in Erie, Pa. The Lady Reds fell to Mercyhurst College, 20-10, before falling to Gannon by a 15-9 margin The two matches opened a seven-game spring trip to Pennsylvania.
Carthage's Kimmy Genian (Sr., Gurnee, Ill./Highland Park) scored three goals against Mercyhurst. Kaitlin Duke (Sr., Schaumburg, Ill./Hoffman Estates-Conant) had two goals and three assists and Kati Pedersen (Jr., Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) two goals and one assist. Goalie Christine Menzenberger (Sr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East) collected 10 saves and a steal. In the Gannon contest, Hillary Veselik (Fr., Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) had five goals and an assist, while Mari Paraskevopoulos (Jr., Mount Prospect, Ill./Arlington Heights-Hersey) collected two goals and one assist. Genian had a steal and five kickouts drawn.
On Friday-Sunday, March 18-20, Carthage plays in the Penn State-Behrend Tournament, also in Erie. On Friday, March 18, the Lady Reds play Macalester College at 1:30 p.m. and Wheaton College (Ill.) at 7 p.m. On Saturday, March 19, Carthage takes on Penn State-Behrend at Noon and Utica College at 3 p.m. On Sunday, March 20, the Lady Reds play Connecticut College at Noon.
