The Carthage College men's swimming team (2-2 dual meet record) defeated Lake Forest College, 120-75, on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Lake Forest Sports Center in Lake Forest, Ill.
Seniors
Ryan Ortmann (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) and
Kyle Drake (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) combined to give Carthage 36 of its 120 points by winning two events each. Ortmann came out on top with a time of 24.59 in the 50 freestyle and again in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.54. Drake took his first-place finishes in both the 200 freestyle, with a time of 1:57.49, a Sports Center record, and in the 100-backstroke, with a time of 1:00.21. Drake's time in the latter event just missed a pool record set by 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist Matt Grevers.
Also with first-place finishes were
Adam Glover (Sr., Eureka, Mo./Eureka) in the 800 freestyle at 9:12.29,
Scott Reher (Fr., Elmhurst, Ill./York) in the 100 butterfly at 1:03.54, and Teryn Solun (Fr., St. John, Ind./Lake Central) in the 400 freestyle at 4:20.85. Though not often swum, the Red Men also set four short-course records : Ortmann in the 50 freestyle (24.59), Drake in both the 100 backstroke (1:00.21) and the 200 freestyle (1:57.49), and Solun in the 400 freestyle (4:20.85).
The Red Men will have their next dual-meet at home, in the Koenitzer Aquatic Center, on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at 1 p.m. against Illinois Wesleyan University.
