The Carthage College men's volleyball team (0-1) opened its 2011 season on Wednesday, Jan. 12 with a 3-0 loss to NCAA Division I Loyola University (Ill., 1-0) at Alumni Gym in Chicago. The Ramblers' winning set scores over the Red Men were 25-22, 25-17 and 25-16. Mike Bunting topped Loyola (Ill.) with 15 kills and a .667 attack percentage (15 kills, 1 error, 21 attempts), while Tim Fydenhall had seven kills and also hit .667. Rambler setter Mike Hutz averaged 12.67 assists per set. Randy Hansen (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill.) and Tom O'Connell (Sr., Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) had eight kills apiece for Carthage, while setter Connor Wexter (Fr., New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) averaged 8.0 assists per set. Carthage plays host to St. Xavier University (0-0) on Friday, Jan. 14 in a 7 p.m. match at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
