The Carthage College women's water polo team (17-9, 9-1 Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Division), tied for seventh place in the May 5 Collegiate Water Polo Association's NCAA Division III coaches poll, finished third at the 2010 National Collegiate III Women's Water Polo Championship. 

Carthage played host to the event on Friday-Saturday, May 7-8 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. This year's championship was five-team event with No. 2 Occidental College (14-15) seeded first, No. 6 Grove City College (16-10) second, No. 3 California Lutheran University (16-12) third, No. 7 Carthage College (14-7) fourth and No. 9 Wheaton College (Ill., 13-12) seeded fifth.

In Friday's pool-play schedule, Carthage lost to Occidental (15-15), 15-9; fell to California Lutheran (17-12), 15-8; and edged Grove City (17-11) by an 8-7 margin. Pool play continued on Saturday with Carthage nipping Wheaton (Ill., 13-15) by an 8-7 margin. Carthage defeated Grove City (17-14), 11-9, in Saturday's third-place match, with California Lutheran (18-12) defeating Occidental (17-17), 10-5, in the championship match. Carthage's Patti Blatter (Sr., Prospect Heights, Ill./Wheeling) was named first-team all-tournament.
