The Carthage College men's tennis team (16-9) lost to Washington University (Mo., 18-4), 5-0, on Saturday, May 15 in the second round of the NCAA Division III Mens Tennis Championship at the Kings Point Sports Club in Belleville, Ill. All of the NCAA matches were moved from the Washington University (Mo.) Tao Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo. The Bears were ranked seventh in the April 29 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's NCAA Division III poll. Carthage opened NCAA play on Friday, May 14 with a 5-4 win over Grinnell College (22-6).
On the other side of the bracket, Luther College (34-8) blanked Westminster College (Mo., 14-3), 5-0, in a first-round contest. The Norse (34-9) lost to No. 20 Kalamazoo College (21-5), 5-1, on Saturday. Washington (Mo.) will take on Kalamazoo on Sunday, May 16 in a third-round match. Carthage made its eighth-straight NCAA appearance in 2010.
In the Red Men's loss to Washington (Mo.), Carthage's Jack Schiro (Sr., Shorewood, Wis., 16-5) did not complete his number-one singles match versus John Watts. Sammy Ramoni (Sr., Honiara, Solomon Islands, 22-8) did not complete his number-two singles contest against Isaac Stein, nor did Jeffery Lotz Jr. (Fr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 19-11) at number-three singles versus Adam Putterman. Max Woods defeated Matt Whiteside (So., Sacramento, Calif., Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 19-8), 6-1, 6-0, at number-four singles. Danny Levy defeated J.T. Delk (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./North, 17-10), 6-1, 6-0, at number-five singles, with Andy Schwenke (Sr., Mukwonago, Wis.) not starting his number-six singles contest. Carthage's number-one team of Ramoni and Lotz (11-9), 8-0. Watts and Kareem Farah defeated the Red Men's number-two team of Schiro and Schwenke (8-10), 8-1,with Levy and Cameron Chiang winning over Carthage's number-three team of Delk and Whiteside (14-7) by an 8-4 margin.

Sammy Ramoni (Sr., Honiara, Solomon Islands, 22-8) defeated Dmitriy Glumov at number-two singles, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6. Jeffery Lotz Jr. (Fr., Racine, Wis./Horlick, 19-11) was a winner at number-three singles, as was Matt Whiteside (So., Sacramento, Calif., Natomas Pacific Pathways Prep, 19-7) at number-four singles and J.T. Delk (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./North, 17-9) at number-five singles. Chris Vargo (Fr., Elmhurst, Ill./York, 6-5) lost at number-six singles.
